Southern Tyrol

On top of the "Möltener Joch".
The wonderful clear weather allowed us to get a good look at the Dolomites.
Here in Southern Tyrol, spring is just beginning in the high mountains. The larches were flowering.
However, some of the snow left us cold-footed!
For some reason the camera decided to switch to black and white... this is on top of the "Steinerne Mandeln", which means "little stone men".
The Gardens of Castle Trauttmansdorff in Merano offered plenty of opportunities for plant pictures. Thankfully we came early in the morning when they were not yet overcrowded.
Rhododendron sp.
Lots of spring flowers.
This is the Garden’s Autumn Pavillion. The coloured glass pieces probably represent autumn leaves.
A view of the castle and part of the gardens.
Pink flower.
White, pink and blue...
A whole meadow was full of these... weeping hearts?
Yellow-White tulip....
... and orange, yellow, and white...
Merano is a rather boring city at the river Etsch/Adige. But is has nice Pizzerias.
Back in the mountains...
...trying to get to the top of the "Großer Ifinger".
German Enzian.
The next day, a nice stroll over some grazing grounds, but no signs of cows yet, only cow poo... looking towards the Großer Ifinger, which we couldn’t summit yesterday because of too much snow at the very top.
No more skiing, but still plenty of snow to enjoy!
The North Wall of the Windspitz. The avalanche must have come down only a few days ago.
Crossing the North Wall -- crampons did come in handy (or footy?) here!
On top of the Kleiner Mittager -- an earthquake measuring station! Work never leaves you alone, does it?
